Friday, November 13 2009 Settlers attack- Bir El-Id

Two settlers from Mitzpeh Yair attacked the residents of Bir El-Id around 9 in the morning on Friday. They threw stones at a herd of sheep, which scared them away The herd was pushed in the direction of one of the ruins beside the residents’ houses below which there is a drop (these Palestinians were expelled from the area in 2000 and were permitted to return just a few weeks ago). Some of the sheep rolled down the side of the wall (see picture) falling on top of each other. The damages caused by the settler attack: one lamb was crushed to death as a result of the hysteria caused by the settlers. The lamb was crushed by other sheep that fell on top of it after being pushed towards the steep part of the hill. One lamb is estimated to be worth 1,000 NIS, according to the residents of Bir El-Id.
Despite the fact that the IDF came to the area, it did not arrest any of the settlers, but rather allowed them to go after a brief conversation. Ta’ayush activists arrived at the site and tried to get the police there in order to see the damage and so that the residents could file a complaint. However the police only arrived 4 hours later. The residents did file a complaint.
